As dealers head to Las Vegas for the National Automobile Dealers Association convention, they're looking forward to this year.
That's the message from an online, unscientific survey Automotive News conducted Jan. 23-25.
Of the 223 respondents, 82 percent expect unit sales this year to be "better" or "much better" than last year, while 76 percent expect profits at their dealerships to be "better" or "much better."
Only 37 percent said they plan to expand their dealerships. In comments, several dealers said they had finished expansions recently.
But 78 percent said they are hiring.
Eight-three percent of respondents said they are hiring for new-vehicle sales, while 67 percent said they are hiring in the used-vehicle sales department. Also, 67 percent said they are hiring in the service and parts department, 25 percent in the F&I department and 18 percent said they are hiring staffers to be dedicated to online operations. Here are the survey results.
