Kia will go big at the Detroit show with the debut of an all-new, rear-wheel-drive sedan.
The unnamed four-door coupe has been previewed in recent years by Kia's GT concept. The production model will ride on the same rwd platform as the upcoming Genesis G70 sport sedan. At least one version is expected to use the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 that Genesis is spreading throughout its lineup.
Kia has high hopes for the car, touting its performance credentials in a series of teaser videos ahead of the Detroit show. While the car won't be a high-volume play for Kia, it will be a new profit stream for a brand with a thin light-truck lineup and a reputation for economical cars.
The brand won't forget those more humble roots, though. Later in the year, a U.S.-spec version of the subcompact Rio will debut, and Kia's Niro hybrid crossover (based on Hyundai's Ioniq hybrid) will land at dealerships.
