The nascent Genesis brand will sit out the Detroit auto show as it preps for bigger things later in the year.
Its first all-new model -- the G70 sedan, which was previewed by the Genesis New York Concept -- could arrive as early as this spring with its auto show debut. The rear-wheel-drive compact sedan will be the first high-volume play from Genesis' lineup. It will hit the ground in 2018 with BMW's 3 series squarely in its sights.
Genesis will put its G80 Sport on sale in 2017 -- a new variant of the G80 sedan (formerly the Hyundai Genesis) that brings a flash of performance to the Genesis marque. The car uses the brand's new 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 for 365 hp worth of extra kick, giving Genesis another weapon in its arsenal to fight against established German luxury marques.
