INGOLSTADT, Germany -- Audi will launch a coupe-styled Q4 crossover in 2019 to challenge models such as the Range Rover Evoque and upcoming BMW X2.
"We offered a preview of this type of vehicle with the Audi TT Offroad concept study three years ago," Audi CEO Rupert Stadler told reporters here during the automaker's annual earnings news conference.
The Q4 will be a niche model positioned between the Q3 and Q5 volume crossovers. Last year, Audi sold 232,045 Q3s and 278,968 Q5s.
An Audi spokesman said no decision has been made about which markets, including the U.S., will get the Q4. But because the Q3 and Q5 are sold in the U.S., it's a good bet the Q4 will be sold in the market, too.
It will take many design cues from the TT Off-road concept unveiled at the 2014 Beijing auto show. The concept combined the sportiness of a coupe with the lifestyle appeal and utility of a crossover/ SUV.
