Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford and sons Nick, left, and Will, right, visited The Henry Ford Tavern in the family's ancestral village of Ballinascarthy in County Cork, Ireland. Ford was visiting in April to commemorate the automaker's 100th anniversary in the country.
The great-grandson of company founder Henry Ford unveiled a plaque and bench in Ballinascarthy, met with former Ford factory employees and spoke at a gala dinner in Cork City Hall. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by University College Cork, where he announced a scholarship for students showing promise in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Henry Ford purchased land in Cork city in 1917. Tractor production began in 1919, and assembly of the Model T was started in 1923.
