TO THE EDITOR:
I have to comment on Keith Crain’s “Mr. President, you are wrong” (autonews.com, June 1). I have a lot of respect for President Donald Trump and think he is doing an excellent job.
Crain may be right about BMW and Mercedes building their vehicles in this great land of ours, but it does not change the fact that most of their engineers work and live in Germany and all the profit they accumulate from us hardworking Americans goes back to their home country. And please don’t forget the thousands of U.S. employees in those dealerships would probably be working for U.S. brands. I do remember when BMW was broke and looking at bankruptcy. Trump has done more for America than any other president in 70 years, with the exception of President Reagan.
One more thing: A young person can save a few hundred thousand dollars and acquire a domestic franchise still; I bet one could not with a BMW or a Daimler franchise. Please don’t give the German manufacturers too much credit — look what VW did to the American consumer. I know too many hardworking, proud Americans who would never buy a foreign name vehicle.
