No. 1 Overall Top Workplace in Toledo: 2014-17
Customers who are clicking around the Yark Automotive Group website are likely to notice a logo from the Toledo Blade newspaper honoring Yark as one of the Top Workplaces in Toledo. The image sits among many other logos representing honors from other organizations, and it also is worked into all of Yark's advertising. "It's a big deal whenever you win stuff like that," said Mike Williams, group general manager. "We want people to know that we're a great place."
Yark's management team applied for the honor from the Blade, which is based solely on surveys that are completed by Yark's employees, because they wanted to recognize their staffers for their hard work and the culture of the organization. And the award has even made it easier to recruit new employees. As Yark's best-place-to-work reputation grows, so does its pile of applications.
But if job applicants somehow didn't already know about Yark's reputation, they're sure to find out about it when they walk in for an interview. A 2016 plaque from the Blade hangs in the human resource director's office, which also displays the 2017 trophy. Williams has even been known to mention the award while he's interviewing job candidates.
And although the award only honors the dealership's relationship to its employees, it has encouraged car shoppers to make purchases. When "they know you're taking care of your employees," Williams said, "they know that you're going to take care of them."
