This just in. Denny Hecker's not out.
Automotive News, citing other media reports, noted on this page last week that the one-time Minnesota megadealer was released from a federal prison to a halfway house in Minneapolis.
The reports cited Hecker's former bankruptcy attorney, Barbara May, who said Hecker called her and told her he was out of prison and in the halfway house. But the Federal Bureau of Prisons last week said Hecker is still in the Pekin, Ill., prison.
Bill Mauzy, one of Hecker's attorneys, told the Minneapolis StarTribune that Hecker's release to the halfway house is now "uncertain" because of the release of "misinformation." Mauzy was told the halfway house no longer has the means to "accommodate" Hecker and the "attention he would bring," the StarTribune reported.
Hecker was sentenced to 10 years in 2011 for receiving more than $80 million in loans by forging documents.
