As it turns out, a six-figure pickup has been done before.
Several times, actually.
Chevrolet compiled a list of the nine most expensive Chevrolet trucks sold at Barrett-Jackson auctions over the years.
The prices ranged from $110,000 all the way up to $214,500.
Talk about sticker shock.
Topping the list were a 1957 Chevrolet 3100 Custom Truck that sold for $214,500 in 2016 and a 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Custom Pickup that went for $205,700 this year.
To be clear, these trucks weren't just stock, fresh-off-the-lot rides. Nor were they built to handle pulling heavy-duty trailers or have the latest safety and technology features.
Instead, these are heavily modified vintage trucks from 1950 to 1971 featuring custom paint jobs, high-performance engines, decked-out interiors and hours upon hours of restoration work.
Barrett-Jackson was set to have its latest auction last week in Las Vegas with more than 60 Chevrolet trucks set to go to auction.
"Vintage trucks, especially Chevrolets, have been gaining popularity with collectors, to the point they are rivaling muscle cars," said Craig Jackson, CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auction Co.
Time will tell if today's modern crop of six-figure trucks will hold their value like their ancestors.
