Coming off a successful initial public offering, CarGurus' ambitions are hardly modest. The third-party site aims to list every vehicle for sale in the U.S. on its site.
"We put any inventory on our site, whether the dealer is paying us or not," said Marty Blue, senior vice president of business development.
CarGurus got into trouble with Canadian authorities last year over this and had to change its approach there. But in the U.S., it expects to gain shoppers and dealers.
And while the company "got our legs on the used side," Blue said, in 2018 there is "more opportunity on the new side." That could mean helping dealers acquire inventory or distinguish themselves from the competition.
