The forklift industry has been in the throes of change from internal combustion engines to electric for 30 years. While it is true that electric forklifts require 40 percent less maintenance than their ICE counterparts, and the maintenance required is significantly less if these vehicles are going to be productive (i.e., never break down), they need some maintenance and attention. VW is correct: The profit model for the dealers does change (“Salvaging service,” Dec. 4). The emphasis on customer experience becomes the glue that helps them retain their customers.
